Suni in South Africa

Latin = Neotragus moschatus , Afrikaans = Soenie, German = Moschubucken

Found only at the northern tip of the Kruger National Park and the most north-eastern and coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal. This tiny and elegant antelope is one of the smallest antelopes. The upper parts and outer sides of the legs are greyish fawn with a tinge of rufous. Only the male animal has horns. The female is slightly heavier than the male. Suni’s prefer thick bush as their natural habitat. Because of its low numbers the Suni is under very strict protection. At the sight of danger, the Suni will stand very still but when the danger is too close they will take off in a flight.
